At-Home Wellness Retreat

We're at least four weeks out from some type of normalcy returning due to Covid. Whilst it still seems a long way away from our favourite day spa, nail salon and skin clinic re-opening, don't worry girl- we got you! We've popped in some of our favourite at-home #treatyoself activities that are sure to help even the most stressed-out souls. Even better, these won't break the bank!

1. Rejuvenating Body Scrub

Regular exfoliation is key to removing dead skin cells and accelerating the skin rejuvenation process. If you are looking for an all natural body scrub that you can find in your pantry, then this is for you. Mix together 2 parts brown sugar, 1 part olive or coconut oil. Add in a spoonful of honey, which is great for both dry and acne-prone skin types. Finally add in a little of your favourite essential oil, such as lemon, orange or lavender to truly create an aromatic experience. Generate steam in the shower and voila- rub in circular motions all over and focus on rough spots such as elbows and knees! Feeling extra bougee? Add a little coffee ground to your mix.

2. Facial Steam

Facial steaming is a fab way to open and cleanse your pores, helping to promote clear and glowing skin. For the perfect at-home steam treatment, fill a bowl with boiled water and leave to cool slightly so that it is not super hot enough to burn your skin. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil, such as tea tree oil for acne-prone skin, rose oil for dry skin or lavender for oily skin. Steam your face for a few minutes by leaning over the bowl with a towel covering your head to lock in the steam. You can follow a steam treatment with a purifying clay mask or simply some toner and moisturiser. We love the Umbrian Clay Mask by Fresh. Too pricey? We also love the L'Oreal Paris Pure Clay Detox Mask.

3. Intensive Hair Treatment

Considering most of us Melbournians haven't had a decent hair cut in months, chances are our hair needs some TLC. However, you don’t need to splash the cash to get perfectly bouncy and glossy locks. For an all-natural conditioning treatment, try mashing up an avocado and applying directly to your hair for a super-shot of moisture and nourishment. Alternatively, for a protein-rich treatment, apply a beaten egg to hair, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse off with cool water. Want to try something from the shelf? We la-la-love Kristin Ess Strand Strengthening Moisture Mask, because it works, a little goes a long way and is super affordable.

4. Milk Bath

Cleopatra vibes anyone? Get an extra shot of hydration with a milk bath. The lactic acid in milk works to soften your skin. Milk baths can also be incredibly soothing for those with eczema or psoriasis. Where to start? Add a few cups of whole milk or some milk powder to your bathwater, mix in your favourite essential oils and honey (optional) and if your feeling extra fancy- float some rose petals on top for a truly luxurious and indulgent experience.

5. Meditate with Candles

Turn off those pesky bright and artificial lights and burn some of your favourite scented candles. Mood lighting can assist in relaxing your mind and promotes a sense of peace. A good thing to add to meditating are natural sounds such as birds chirping or ocean waves hitting the shore. Needing a new candle? Glasshouse's limited edition range is to die for! Seriously!

6. Give yourself a facial massage

Facial massage might sound like an unnecessary (and time-consuming) step in your skincare routine. But just two minutes a day can help prevent wrinkles and relax your mind. A quick facial massage a few times a week can help you reap the benefits. You can go to different lengths, depending on the time you have available. It can be as simple as spending a little extra time massaging in the cleanser or moisturizer you're already using. If you have a little extra time, use your favourite face oil, starting at the cheeks and making your way up to forehead in using circular motions with your finger tips.

While using your fingers is effective, there are a slew of tools available to aid in facial massage and whilst they look fabulous on your bathroom vanity, these skincare gadgets are actually incredible at delivering results. There's a reason why facial tools were voted best beauty product in 2020 by Allure Magazine. Whilst facial tools can vary dramatically in price, we have some super affordable facial tools right here.
